NEW and OLD THANGS FOR NOVEMBER 8th, 2002!!

1. MARTY EHRLICH - The Long View (Enja 9452; Germany) With Mark Feldman, Bobby Previte, Pheeroan AkLaff, Ray Anderson, Wayne Horvitz, Erik Friedlander, Mark Helias, Marcus Rojas, Ned Rothenberg, Mark Dresser, Andy Laster, Michael Sarin, James Zollar, J D Parran, Eddie Bobe, Ralph Farris, Eddie Allen, Sam Furnace, John Clark, Clark Gayton, and Robert DeBellis. Whew! This brand-new, currently import-only item features a long-form, six movement suite inspired by and in collaboration with six paintings done in conjunction with these musics by Oliver Jackson, a charter member of B.A.G. (Black Artists Group, whose members included Julius Hemphill), one of which is included in the foldout booklet. This is an amazing work of strength, maturity, and sublime arrangement from reedman/flautist Marty (we don't expect less!); one can easily place it in stature alongside classic jazz composer orchestra recordings (like the JCOA albums of the '70s) but it is quite contemporary, very fresh and up to the moment! Each movement is played by variations in line-ups of the all-star assemblage. It may be released here sometime next year, but it might not - one never knows. So don't find yourselves waiting months till we manage to get more (like Feldman's Book Of Tells, also on German Enja), grab it now!
CD only release for $16

2. JEFF BUCKLEY & GARY LUCAS - Songs To No One: 1991-1992 (Evolver/KnitWorks 2006) The first six cuts especially have the haunting ethereal guitar backgrounds we know as a trademark of Gary Lucas, accompanying this young singer-songwriter (and future, sadly short-lived, superstar) who had just moved to New York and joined Lucas' Gods And Monsters. Incredibly touching lyrics and vocal performances by the young Jeff Buckley including 1st versions of the songs "Grace" (2 versions here, one a duo and one with Jared Nickerson and Tony Lewis added) and "Mojo Pin" make one wonder how these recordings could have remained dormant so long. (one possible answer: what Gary does in accompaniment is of such sensuous high-quality that the industry ears weren't/aren't ready for it - but only they aren't!). At times I hear touches of Sting in Jeff's voice, if only Sting had such a range, but the style is really entirely his own. "Satisfied Mind" is a duet with Bill Frisell (the only cut without Gary). Starting with the 7th cut "Cruel" (one of 2 tracks with Tony Maimone and Anton Fier), the material takes on a .sense of deja vu that harked back to the special acoustic stomp of Led Zeppelin III for me. One of these latter cuts, "She Is Free", finds the duo augmented by Steven Bernstein's Sex Mob (Bernstein, Briggan Kraus, Tony Sherr, Kenny Wollesen and Brian Mitchell). This is absolutely NOT a cash-in on leftovers (except perhaps for the execs involved); the 11 recordings here, produced and assembled by Hal Wilner, uncannily become a unified whole as a high-quality listening experience!
CD only release for $14

3. ANTHONY BRAXTON QUARTET - [Coventry] 1985 (Leo 204/205-2 cd set) Featuring Mr. Braxton on various reeds/compositions, Marilyn Crispell on piano, Mark Dresser on contrabass and Gerry Hemingway on drums/percussion. Considered by many to be one of finest new music quartets of the 20th century, this incredible classic live set is finally back in print! Now included is a 16 page booklet with detailed liner notes from the British Braxton expert Graham Lock, as well as an extensive interview with the composer at the end of each cd. Magnificent and thoroughly provocative music for the discerning listener.
2 CD set only reissue for $28.

4. RUINS - Tzomborgha (Ipecac 35) Incredible new studio effort from our favorite Japanese dynamic duo - Tatsuya Yoshida (drums & vocals) and Hisashi Sasaki (el. basses). It still amazes me what this fabulous duo can do with drums and electric bass. Tatsuya uses his voice to create a wealth of wacky cartoonish characters, from Magma-like high operatic vocals to weird/deep spooky vocal insanity. Hisashi is in constant motion switching his bass between many different devices with many sustain, delay and fuzztones. The tunes are super-tight, often ultra-quick and shift between a wealth of sections/dynamics. Ruins really use the studio to its fullest extent by altering their sound constantly and often sounding much bigger than any other duo. They blend and borrow from so many different genres - progressive (Zappa-esque complexities), punk, metal, fusion, etc. and have a sly sense of humor also. Only the Ruins could cover Messiaen, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Black Sabbath and throw some silly Brazilian grooves in the brew as well!?! Often astonishing and occasionally hilarious. November 12th release date.
CD only release for $14.

5. KING CRIMSON - Ladies Of The Road [2 CD Set] (DGM 0203; USA) Ladies Of The Road is a two-volume Special Edition of live performances during 1971-72 (the line-up of Robert Fripp/Mel Collins/Ian Wallace/Boz Burrell) drawn from the archives of the King Crimson Collectors' Club. Volume One: Ladies Of The Road is a series of performances beginning with the play-in shows at the Zoom Club, Frankfurt through to the final Earthbound tour of America. Several cuts are taken from the four club-only (non-retail) releases. Volume Two: "Schizoid Men" is a 54 minute version of "21st Century Schizoid Man" with many outrageous sax and guitar solos played during various performances seamlessly edited into one coherent whole between the heads. Anyone can guess that Disc 2 contains an awesome catalogue of various approaches that Fripp took in his solos at different shows, but once again it is shown what an amazingly creative and emotional reedman Mel Collins is in this setting - you don't hear playing like his except in the hardest edged jazz/free jazz musics, certainly not in any other 'rock' contexts!
2 CD set release for $18

6. SHOKO NAGAI - Vortex (self-produced 00292) Featuring Greg Tardy & Sam Newsome on saxes, Dave Hertzberg on double-bass, Satoshi Takeishi on percussion and Shoko Nagai on piano, accordion & all compositions. This is Shoko's debut release and considering I've only heard of her over the past couple of years, this is a beautiful offering from a fine pianist and sublime composer. Both sax players keep pretty busy in many projects - Greg plays with Dave Douglas, Susie Ibarra and is a leader himself. Percussion wiz Satoshi also can be found with brother el. bass great Stomu in numerous bands like a recent Myra Melford trio. Shoko has a gift to elegance and subtly. She has written lovely, enchanting and rich melodies for both saxes to blend their sound together, as the piano, bass and percussion weave their dreamy, hushed waves into the somber stream. On "Reminiscence", the waves grow more turbulent, as the quintet build in intensity and spirit, Sam's soprano and Greg's tenor saxes spin just right together. Shoko, Greg and Sam do a marvelous job of soloing together, a few bars apiece and continuing the spirit as they soar. On "Revival Life - for Israel", the quintet moves through a few different sections, some majestic and filled with subdued passion and fire, some quiet and mysterious. Shoko has composed some intricate horn parts on "The Sirens of TITAN" and Sam takes a long, haunting soprano sax solo. Greg plays clarinet and Shoko plays accordion on the delicate, melancholy piece called "U. TA. KA. TA. NO", another precious ultra-subtle gem which flows into "The Northern Sky Was GlowingŠ", building as the flames begin to grow with both saxes interweaving their special spirits once more. Shoko plays a breathtaking solo here, showing that she a strong talent to be reckoned with. The final piece, "Whirl Around Future", is another gem of restrained passion with superb solos from Sam Newsome, Greg Tardy and Shoko Nagai, but it is great support of the strong rhythm team that really fan the flames throughout. This another wonderful treasure from a new member of the ever-growing downtown community.
CD only release for $14.

7. JOSEPH SCIANNI - one eyed jack (Cadence 1148) This features Scianni on piano, Blaise Siwula on alto sax (two tracks only) and Ken Filiano or Hal Onserud on double bass. There are a number little known legends of modern jazz piano who have created their marvelous worlds, but so few know that they exist. In the mid-sixties there were two of these under-recognized giants, who have slowly gotten the recognition they have long deserved - the Legendary Hassan and Memphis born piano wonder - Joseph Scianni. Scianni recorded just one marvelous duo record for Savoy in 1963 with Ornette's bassist - David Izenzon, and then seemed to have disappeared until 1996, when he came back to record four fine cds for the CIMP label. This is the fifth release for the CIMP/Cadence stable and it is yet another challenging treasure trio effort. Joseph composed all but three of the pieces here, which include three standards - "Serenade in Blue", Duke's "I Got it Bad" and Gershwin's "Someone to Watch Over Me". If Scianni played they same way in 1963 he plays now, he would be one of the first "out jazz" pianists. The two trio pieces with Blaise and Hal are suspense filled, spacious and free, with gnarly, explosive fragments. Both are long, focused and quite intense, with quick flashes of improv lightning dancing like sparks. Joseph does a great job of taking each standard and turning them inside out, in between the opening themes/heads, both he and master-bassist Ken Filiano really create flurries of swirling notes flying spin in haze of hyper-activity. This is a beautifully balanced duo that consistently weave their talents together in grand, fascinating ways. Ken's haunting bowed bass and Joseph's eloquent piano really provide some quietly powerful imagery on "Weep Quietly" and then head for the outer regions on "Khyber Pass". This entire release is a convincing portrait of another wonderful giant of avant/jazz piano.
CD only release for $14.

8. CARLOS ZINGARO/JOELLE LEANDRE/SEBI TRAMONTANA - The Chicken Check in Complex (Leo 340) French contrabass wonder, Joelle Leandre, needs no introduction by now, since we've written about her marvelous playing on many occasions and we were honored to have her perform a superb solo bass set here at DMG earlier this year. Spanish violinist Carlos Zingaro, has been involved in a variety improv projects over the last decade, the Canvas Trio with Rudiger Carl and Joelle is just one. Italian trombonist Sebi Tramontana is another busy improviser who plays with the Italian Instabile Orchestra, as well as with Ken Vandermark, Hamid Drake, Georg Graewe, Stefano Maltese and Mario Schiano. This marvelous international trio was recorded live at "Les Instant Chavires" in France. All three of these improvisers excel at extended techniques, it becomes difficult to tell who is doing what at times. Shimmering bowed strings, humming/droning and muted trombone, ghost-like sound fragments, furious arco string flurries, percussive bows tapping on bass and violin and strange growling trombone sounds. Utterly bewitching, profoundly stimulating and immensely thoughtful Euro improv at its best and recorded just right.
CD only release for $15.

9. CHRIS CHALFANT - Love and Light (Jyaku Sound 010602) Featuring Chris on piano & voice, Joseph Jarman on flutes & clarinets, Jessica Jones on tenor sax & flute, Ken Filiano on double-bass, Ken Yamazaki and Rob Garcia on drums & percussion. Another release from the Brooklyn Buddhist Association, but just a sextet this time. "African Harp" begins with dreamy floating wordless vocals, peaceful piano and soft bowed bass, slowly emerging into a melancholy groove with elegant flutes fluttering above the somber rhythms. Eventually it all begins to freer and flies higher and higher into a powerful and intense mass, uplifting and always connected, before it finally floats back down to mother earth. Very special enchanting spirits are at the center. Ms. Chalfant has a warm and hypnotic voice which rings true at the center of "Peach Moon", with mysterious tympani, spacious percussion and billowing reeds. She also plays completely enchanting piano throughout, navigating the waters through a handful of mysterious dreamscapes. The long title track is a delightful journey, which begins most peacefully, but slowly evolved through an organic flow of natural events - "breathing, observing, listening, awakening and rejoicing". There is peaceful magic at the center of this entire endeavor which flows beautifully throughout.
CD only release for $14.

10. FRED LONBERG-HOLM/GLENN KOTCHE/JASON ROEBKE - A Valentine For Fred Katz (Atavistic 139) For a jazz cellist, there aren't so many possible heroes on the instrument. Fortunately, there's Fred Katz. Not only as a cellist, but as composer and arranger as well, Mr. Katz is worthy of accolades and acolytes. He studied with old master Pablo Casals and played piano behind various big-name crooners at the start of the fifties, but soon Katz made his decisive move into the Chico Hamilton Quintet, where he had a chance to work with multi-reed visionary Eric Dolphy and guitarist Jim Hall. Fellow cellist and fellow Frederick - currently Chicago-based Fred Lonberg-Holm set out a few years ago to pay homage to the gloriously cool Mr. Katz. Recruiting ultra-sensitive drummer Glenn Kotche and adaptable bassist Jason Roebke, Mr. Lonberg-Holm arranged a varied set of Katz's music, as well as some pieces familiar from his records. Often exquisite and completely delectable.
CD only release for $14.

11. LIVE AT TONIC - Vol 1 (Tonic 001) contains previously ureleased live cuts from such groups as Emergency (John Zorn, John Medeski, Marc Ribot, Ben Perowski); Dougie Bown's Peninsula; Derek Bailey & Min Xiao-Fen; Arto Lindsay; Friedlander/Courvoisier/Mori; Susie Ibarra Trio; Mazzacane Connors & Kim Gordon; Z'ev/Mori/Keiji; Joey Baron & Vince Cantuaria; and Raz Mesinai & Marina Rosenfeld. It is being carried by us at a price that is higher than the original retail, as the only place that it can be purchased for the original $15 is at the door of the world famous Tonic club, home of many Downtown NY Music performers. Though it is run by people near and dear to us, they are not offering it for mail order, nor are they selling it for less to ourselves (or anyone else) so that we may ship it to others at a relatively similar price - because all artists have forgone their royalties in order to benefit this club's renovation costs. We've had many requests, from our loyal national and international customers, however, to purchase it and resell it to them. So. Here's what we're doing: as we cannot afford to operate in a vacuum, we are selling it for (only) a couple of dollars above our cost if you order it with another item (Any business minds out there will instantly realize this small markup just about covers the work involved with no real profit). Limited edition of 2000 copies.
In conjunction with any other item ordered, it is $17 before shipping.
If this is the only item ordered, it is $19 + shipping

A BUNCH OF IMPORTANT REISSUES & HISTORIC RECORDINGS:

12. TONY CONRAD WITH FAUST - Outside The Dream Syndicate (Table of the Elements 03) This 30th anniversary reissue features a second disk of originally unreleased music from the sessions and restores 'Outside the Dream Syndicate' to its rightful place in history: as the vital link between early minimalism and the rock avant-garde and a gripping testament to the power and beauty of the Drone. A most impressive two cd set with deluxe, limited-edition packaging, a 32-page book and poster. Includes previously unreleased material from the original 1972 sessions and features new liner notes by Rolling Stone senior editor David Fricke, one of the few (only?) up there who ever had any insight. This 1972 recording between the legendary La Monte Young protege and the pioneering German outfit Faust features just-intonation drones and a perfectly syncopated Krautrock rhythm section, creating one of the ultimate dream-tone soundtracks. Tony Conrad has remixed the material to bring it closer to his original intention, and in the process of digging up the tapes, discovered that there was additional material from the session, which a 2nd CD for this release.
Special edition 2 CD set reissue for $28.

13. PHEW - Phew (Pass Records 101/Japanese import) A deluxe reissue, packaged in mini-LP jacket sleeve. Features two alternate version bonus tracks that are issued here for the first time (the previous CD reissue by the DSA label in France did not contain them). The classic debut album by this Japanese female vocalist (post-Aunt Sally), with musical backing by the German trio of Conny Plank, Holger Czukay and Jaki Liebezeit and recorded at Conny's famous studio. This legendary Japanese female vocalist concocted a real alien swirl of post-Lydia Lunch depression and mope-inspired dream-tone. Of all the Can-related projects that have come to exist, this is certainly one of the best and most inspired. Phew has also worked with Anton Fier on his long out-of-print 'Dreamspeed' cd (once on Avant), as well as with Otomo Yoshihide more recently.
A rare and hard to find Japanese import only CD release for $30.

14. HIROSHI KAWANI - Flashback (PSF 130) "Hiroshi Kawani is a little known figure in the West, but he has been crucially central to the Tokyo avant-garde scene since the fifties as performer, commentator, theorist, organizer, and agitator. He was part of the sixties experimental art nexus that included Takehisa Kosugi and Yasunao Tone as well as radical artists like Natsuyuki Nakanishi and Genpei Akasegawa (in the greatest cause célèbre of the 60s Japanese art world, the latter was prosecuted by the Japanese state for creating one-sided simulacra of bank notes). Later, as an editor at publishers Gendai Shichosha, Kawani was responsible for bringing out Japanese translations of work by Artaud, Bataille, Derrida and others - works that galvanised a new generation of radicals. Kawani has been active as a solo voice performer since the early 80s, and though now in a wheelchair he still performs regularly. The private home recordings presented here have been unearthed by alto terrorist Masayoshi Urabe from a mountain of cassettes of unknown provenance, and would seem to date from around 1983. There's the unmistakable feel of low-level mania throughout, as Kawani moans, jabbers and obsesses wordlessly into a microphone over an patterned tapestry of feedback and amped everyday objects (rubber bands, cans, bottles, knives, steel pipes, shoes, chopsticks etc). This touches on all kinds of synapse-warping art bases from Robert Ashley to the Nurse With Wound in a gloriously messy, un-academic (and yes, psychedelic) way." -- Alan Cummings.
Japanese import CD only release for $20.

15. TOWNES VAN ZANDT - Absolutely Nothing (Normal 235) New 2002 release, issued for the first time worldwide on Normal. During his lifetime only a few critics, colleagues and loyal fans knew that Townes Van Zandt was one of the finest American songwriters of all time. Five years after his death on New Years Day 1997, the 'Van Gogh of lyrics' (Billboard magazine) finally arrived in the awareness of a wide public. His complete musical work is available. All the ups and downs of his career from the 1968 debut 'For A Sake Of the Song' to the last concerts in the mid-90's are documented. However, there are still the last words of the Texas troubadour to discover like 'Absolutely Nothing', a wonderful compilation of unreleased studio and live recordings. For a long time Townes Van Zandt performed the Pogues' gem "Dirty Old Town" only on stage. In September 1996, Townes and his fellows Royann and Jim Calvin recorded, the folk classic at Flashpoint Studio in Austin, Texas. Recorded only on one track, the minimalist poem with mandolin and violin is nearly as touching as the unforgettable "Kathleen". The poet of the hopeless at the end of his life: disorientated and helpless he sings these covers as if they were his own songs. All other five studio recordings on 'Absolutely Nothing' are as beautiful and sad as 'Dirty Old Town', which is now for the first time available on CD. These songs reveal an introvert artist, suffering, exhausted and tired but not broken. He just could not stop writing and playing. The other 12 songs on 'Absolutely Nothing' were recorded live in 1994 at different clubs. The concert shows Townes at his very best. He played his classics in an unbelievably relaxed way. At the end of the album we are witness of a good-humored Townes Van Zandt telling the "Penguin" and "The Three Shots Of Gin" jokes.
CD only release for $14.

16. TOWNES VAN ZANDT - Abnormal (Normal 216) The country/folk-blues singer and guitarist Townes Van Zandt was a native Texan and great grandson of one of the original settlers who founded Fort Worth in the mid-19th century. The son of a prominent oil family, Townes turned his back on financial security to pursue the beatnik life in Houston. First thumbing his way through cover versions, his acoustic sets later graced the Jester Lounge and other venues where his 'bawdy barroom ballads' were first performed. Although little known outside of a cult country rock following, many of his songs are better publicized by covers afford them by Merle Haggard, Emmylou Harris, Don Gibson and Willie Nelson. This gave songs such as "Pancho & Lefty" and "If I Needed You" the chance to rise to the top of the country charts. His media awareness belies the debt of many artists, including the Cowboy Junkies and The Go-Betweens, profess to owing him. In the 1980s Van Zandt continued to live a reclusive life in a cabin in Colorado recording occasionally purely for chance to 'get the songs down for posterity'. He compiled two records for release in 1997 ('Highway Kind' & 'Documentary') and started recording an album together with Sonic Youth. But his death put an end to all these plans. Townes Van Zandt died on New Years Day 1997, the anniversary of the death of Hank Williams. 'Abnormal' was recorded on several locations during Townes Van Zandt's 1995 European Tour. Beside "Flyin` Shoes", "Waitin` Round To Die", "Kathleen" and a collection of either equally memorable songs, 'Abnormal' also includes new studio versions of "Coo-Coo and "Dollar Bill Blues" and the never before released gem - "Shrimp Song".
CD only reissue release for $14.

17. JAMES LUTHER DICKINSON - Dixie Fried CD (Sepia-Tone 10) Jim Dickinson is perhaps the best (un)known musician Memphis has ever produced. As a band-leader, session musician and producer, his legacy stretches back to the early '60s, when he started out in garage rock bands like Flash and the Memphis Casuals. He developed into a session musician who was involved in recordings by a number of legendary artists at Ardent Studios for Stax and for Sam Phillips. He played the piano on The Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses" and can be seen in the studio with the Stones in the film Gimme Shelter. In the late '60s he was part of amazing house studio band called The Dixie Flyers. Jerry Wexler, impressed by their ability to play just about any style, signed them to Atlantic to back various artists he'd sign to the label. During this time the Dixie Flyers backed Aretha Franklin, Sam & Dave, Lulu, Delaney & Bonnie and many others. Wexler decided to sign the Flyers on to do their own album so that they might become a band in their own right and begin touring, something in which the Dixie Flyers had no interest. Dickinson convinced Wexler to allow him to do a solo album instead. The resulting album was 'Dixie Fried' - nine tracks of pure southern fried boogie. Dickinson got the cream of local talent to participate on this album, including Dr. John and Charlie Freeman. The album has been out of print for decades and fetches a high dollar in collectors' circles. You might recognize Dickinson's two sons from their current band - The Mississippi All-Stars.
CD only reissue release for $14.

18. THE RED KRAYOLA - God Bless The Red Krayola and All Who Sail With It (Sunspots 521) This was the Red Krayola's second album, originally released on International Artists in 1968. Mayo Thompson and Steve Cunningham returned to Texas for this release and along with drummer Tommy Smith (who played briefly with Bubble Puppy), began recording the second Red Krayola album, which consisted in numerous one and two minute tracks, taking the band in a more experimental direction. Certainly one of the strangest psychedelic/avant recordings of all time!?! The Red Krayola still exist to this day with Mayo Thompson at the head and bless us with their special brand of weirdness every few years.
CD only Italian import reissue for $16.

19. 13TH FLOOR ELEVATORS - Easter Everywhere (Sunspots 522) The Elevators' second album and also their best, originally released in 1967 by International Artists. Includes the epic "Slip Inside This House" and an excellent cover of Bob Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue". Led by the legendary Roky Erickson, before he lost his mind.
CD only Italian import reissue for $16.

20. GOLD - Mission Rock (World in Sound 1014) 'Mission Rock' was recorded live in San Francisco 1971 with excellent studio sound quality! The music ranges in the early Quicksilver/Santana/Big Brother & The Holding Company style, with 68 minutes of completely unreleased material! Gold in 1971 was one of the hottest bands in S.F. still without an LP. Bill Graham was booking the band to open shows for Ten Years After, Big Brother and the Holding Company and Mike Bloomfield with the hope and the support for an LP release. Now finally after 32 years here is the album Graham would have liked to hear. Country Joe McDonald took a personal interest in the band and worked with them on a number of projects. On this CD he wrote 2 of the 13 songs, which he had never performed with Country Joe & the Fish. The very talented guitarists Ed Scott/Joe Bajza often remind one of that Quicksilver double el. guitar sound and founded Gold in 1967/68. The great vocalist on 'Mission Rock' is Robin Sinclair and she was in the same style as Janis Joplin and was an experienced professional who had recorded two albums on Cadet Concept/Chess as part of a group called Saloom, Sinclair & the Mother Bear. The music itself is very powerful in rhythm section with congas, two acid jamming guitars and vocals a la Janis that make this CD to an absolute must for all San Francisco Sound fans. This splendid cd contains a fine bio, great photos and underground S.F. posters and was produced with friendly support of Country Joe McDonald. An amazing find - BLG!
German import CD only release for $15.

21. PHANTASIA - self/titled (World in Sound 1015) Reissue of US psychedelic ultra rarity recorded 1971/72. The original albums (a complete one and a one-sided) are legends for all psychedelic/garage collectors, only 25 copies pressed of each - not many people have the pleasure of having seen a copy. The music is creeping slowly and sensitively in your mind, whether stoned or not, it takes you wherever you want. Those are the complete sessions, 55 minutes in master-tape quality presented the first time to the public with an extremely informative booklet (20 sided) with outstanding artwork and color photos. One of the best psychedelic albums, playing in the same league as Fraction, Music Emporium, Hunger, Mystic Siva, Damon. Later the band changed into Trizo 50 that will also be released on World in Sound. For us it is unbelievable that this extremely talented band didn't make it.
German import CD only release for $15.

RESTOCKED: The Elusive GARY LUCAS - EDGE OF HEAVEN French Import CD

22. GARY LUCAS - The Edge of Heaven [Plays Mid-Century Chinese Pop] (Indigo/Label Bleu 2582) Gary Lucas' recent solo effort was a dream project for him, one that he has been working on for a number of years. 'The Edge of Heaven' is a wonderfully produced collection of Chinese pop tunes performed both vocally by Celest Chong and Gisburg, as well as instrumentally, with some backing from Gary's Gods & Monsters rhythm team. Everything about this cd is done perfectly - superb cover art, insightful liner notes and lush production. The only unfortunate thing is that, it has no US distribution at present; our only source for this is Gary himself. Unfortunately, his label in France charged him even more (his own record!) for the last batch, which means we also had to raise the price. An elegant French import and treasure only found here at DMG for $24.

OUR WEBSITE (DTMGallery.com) NOW HAS A SEARCH ENGINE!
As of this Saturday 10/26 you will be able to search for items by
Artist Name, or Title, or Keyword In Description text (or an
"Everything Search" which encompasses these first three searches), or
Label, Or ANY COMBINATION OF THESE SEARCHES, as well as other
sub-search features like which items are LP/Vinyl, or only items
included in the "Buy 6, get 7th CD Free" Sale, etc, etc.
We've only loaded a small portion of the cornucopia to be found when
one visits the store - most of the recent 25 newsletters and the
complete catalogs of many of the main labels which we specialize in
and/or represent. We hope to add at least 200 items from our current
stock each week (including the contents of each latest newsletter)
until we catch up with our basic available stock somewhere in the
next few months.

You may begin using this immediately to search for stuff you remember
reading about in our newsletters (the information/compiled
newsletters at the site have never been in a [re]searchable order)
and we welcome your comments and criticisms as to how helpful you
find it.

The search page is found at
